EPA Project Kickoff and Workshop at SDSU in Brookings, SD. Dec. 7-8, 2006. Meeting included investigator introductions, status and use of the WETLANDSCAPE model, field sites, data bases and management, development of GIS and Digital Elevation Models, effects of land use on watershed hydrology, review of project objectives and development of timelines for task assignments.

Field trip and Meeting with Dr. Thomas Lovejoy (Smithsonian Institute) at SDSU in Brookings, SD. April 13, 2007. Dr. Lovejoy was the keynote speaker at the South Dakota Academy of Science’s annual meeting at SDSU. Rick Voldseth and Dr. Lovejoy met and discussed the wetlands and climate change project and toured wetland areas on the Prairie Coteau.

EPA Project Workshop on Economics, Land Use and Climate Change at OSU Corvallis, OR. April 25-26, 2007. Glenn Guntenspergen, Rick Voldseth, Rich Adams and Ben Rashford met to become familiar with the economic and land use modeling components of their respective models. They discussed approaches to combining outputs from these models to address project objectives.

EPA Project Workshop on Economics, Land Use and Climate Change at SDSU in Brookings, SD. May 22, 2007. Carter Johnson, Rich Adams, Ben Rashford, Glenn Guntenspergen and Rick Voldseth met to review and discuss economic and land use modeling efforts. They assigned tasks and developed timelines to achieve project goals.

EPA Project Workshop to adopt climate change scenarios for WETLANDSCAPE. Glenn Guntenspergen and Phil Fay met in Duluth in May, 2007, and reviewed the latest literature and 2007 IPCC reports to determine what climate change scenarios would be most appropriate to use in our modeling.

Field trip and Meeting at SDSU with Dr. Marinus Otte (NDSU) in Brookings, SD. June 7th, 2007. Carter Johnson, Glenn Guntenspergen and Rick Voldseth met with Dr. Otte and gave a field tour of our wetland research sites. The potential for project collaborations were discussed.

IALE World Congress at Wageningen University, The Netherlands. July 8-12, 2007. Carter Johnson and Glenn Guntenspergen attended the 2007 IALE World Congress. Dr. Johnson presented an invited paper co-authored by Glenn Guntenspergen and Arnold van der Valk (Iowa State University), titled “Vulnerability of central North American wetlands to climate change.”
